Teaching by Design: Spring Wall

Most teachers plan their exercises.

Presented By John Garey

Few plan how they will show up to teach them. In this two-hour workshop, John Garey teaches five different Spring Wall flows, each flow matched to one of the 5 Pilates Teacher Archetypes™: the Entertainer, the Motivator, the Coach, the Educator, and the Pal. You'll experience how the energy changes with each archetype, and how even the same cues land differently.

The Spring Wall puts teachers on their feet and facing you. That makes it the most social piece of equipment in the studio, and the one where a teacher's energy carries the room.

Before and after each flow, John breaks down the archetype. You'll learn what that archetype is like at its best, how it uses voice, physicality, energy, and presence, and even how it can go wrong. You'll also learn to design your flows using the archetypes, based on the time of day, the class format, and the people in the room. While no one archetype belongs to any one flow, these five pairings are examples of how to use each one to your advantage.

Duration: 2 Hours
